Dear Ms. Reiss-Andersen,

I am writing to you to nominate Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg for the prestigious 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

There are three main reasons why Greta Thunberg should receive the award. She protested peacefully without seeking popularity or any personal gain, spoke passionately about preventing climate change on the global stage and has inspired millions around the world to protest and demand climate action.

She heard the term ‘climate change’ first when she was eight years old and could not understand why so little was being done about it. She learned more and more about the issue over the years and decided to take action. On 20 August 2018, Greta Thunberg sat alone outside the Swedish Parliament with a sign reading: School Strike for Climate. She did not do this for popularity or fame, but to alert the planet from the devastating impacts of global warming. Six days later, she was joined by fellow students, parents and teachers, and they began to attract the attention of the media. The word spread.

Greta Thunberg has spoken at climate conventions in Stockholm, Brussels, Helinski and London, as well as the UN Climate Change COP24 and COP25. She spoke passionately and emotionally about preventing climate, but also presented the important facts alongside it. Here is a quote from her COP24 speech: “People are dying! And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!”

Millions of young people flooded the streets of the world demanding action on climate change. There were protesters in New York, Paris, Brazil, Thailand, Berlin, Munich, Warsaw, Vienna, San Francisco, Seattle and almost every major city and country you can possibly name! People have protested on all continents, even in Antarctica! And they were all inspired by Greta. She has accomplished worldwide inspiration and change with Asperger's syndrome. She said that it makes her “a bit different from the norm” and that “given the right circumstances – being different is a superpower”.

In conclusion, Greta Thunberg should undoubtedly receive the Nobel Peace Prize for her peaceful protests, passionate speeches, and the inspiration she has given to millions of people. I would like to thank you for your time and consideration of my request.

Yours sincerely,

Jack De Ravin
